These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the bible-app web application (the “Service”) operated by bible-app (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service (16 in jurisdictions that require parental consent below that age). By using the Service you confirm you meet this requirement, and you agree to provide accurate account information.
2. Your account
You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account. One account per person. Keep your email and authentication method secure. Notify us at support@bible-app.example if you suspect unauthorized access.
3. The Service
The Service provides a daily Bible devotion (verse, reflection, prayer), an AI-powered Bible chat, a Bible reader with audio narration, and (where enabled) Plus-only features including video conversation with a pastoral AI avatar. The catalogue of features may change as we iterate. We will not silently remove a paid feature you are actively paying for; we will provide refunds or alternatives if a paid feature is materially discontinued.
4. Plus subscription
- Free trial. New subscribers may receive a free trial period (currently 3 days). Your card will not be charged during the trial. You can cancel before the trial ends via the Customer Portal at no charge.
- Billing. Plus subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly, depending on which you chose) at the then-current price, until you cancel.
- Cancellation. You can cancel at any time via your profile → Manage subscription. You retain Plus access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- Refunds. Charges are non-refundable by default. Statutory rights in your jurisdiction (e.g. EU cooling-off, UK consumer rights) override this. We may issue discretionary refunds for service outages or material defects — contact support@bible-app.example.
- Price changes. We will give at least 14 days' notice of any price change. The new price applies to your next renewal; you can cancel before then.
5. Pastor minute packs
- Token packs are one-time purchases. Minutes added to your balance do not expire. Plus subscribers receive a monthly free-minute allocation that does expire at the end of each billing cycle.
- Minutes consumed during a video session are non-refundable. Minutes that remain unused after a refund request will be reversed proportionally at our discretion.
6. AI content disclaimer
The Service uses third-party AI models (OpenAI) to generate devotional reflections, prayers, chat answers, and pastoral conversations. These outputs are generated text, not human-vetted counsel:
- They are not theological, legal, medical, financial, or crisis-mental-health advice. If you need any of those, consult a qualified human professional.
- AI can be wrong. We try hard to ground every response in scripture and to refuse harmful requests, but mistakes do occur. Treat outputs as a study aid, not an authority.
- If you are in crisis, please reach out to a local crisis line or emergency services. The Service is not a substitute for human support.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Generate content that incites harm to others, including violence, hate, or self-harm.
- Attempt to extract information about other users, scrape the Service, or evade rate limits or paywalls.
- Reverse-engineer the AI models accessible through the Service, or use the Service to train competing AI products.
- Use the Service in connection with illegal activity, or to harass or defame others.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section, and we may report unlawful activity to authorities.
8. Intellectual property
- The Bible. The King James Version is in the public domain. Other translations (e.g. NIV, ESV) are added only under license — your access to them is bound by those licenses in addition to these Terms.
- Your content. You retain ownership of anything you type into the Service (chat queries, profile notes). You grant us a limited license to process and store it as needed to run the Service.
- Our software. The bible-app code, design, brand, and AI prompts are our property. You may use the Service per these Terms but you may not copy, modify, or redistribute it.
9. Service availability
The Service is provided “as is”. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability — we depend on third-party providers (Supabase, OpenAI, Stripe, CDN) whose outages can affect us. We will credit Plus subscribers for material extended outages on a case-by-case basis.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim related to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) USD 100. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages. Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for gross negligence, fraud, or willful misconduct, or any liability that cannot be limited under your local consumer-protection law.
11. Termination
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or if continued service becomes impossible (e.g. processor closes us down). On termination, sections 6, 8, 10, and 12-14 survive.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which bible-app is registered, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, unless your local consumer-protection law grants you different rights.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. The “Last updated” date reflects the current version. We will notify Plus subscribers of material changes at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after that period constitutes acceptance.
